Robin’s interest in music started at a very young age. When he was born, he had two older brothers, 12 and 14 years old, that were having band practice at the house when he came home from the hospital. Since that day, he was enveloped in loud music, distortion, driving bass, lots of snare fills, and miles of long hair; it was the late 60’s.
Santa brought him his first drum set at the age of 3. Just about every year after that, a new set showed up because the old one was worn out. At the age of 12, Robin started to take music a little more seriously. He met a kid down the road who played guitar, Don Spears, became good friends with him and his little brother, Sean Spears, who played bass guitar. They stated their first band, THE MUSIC MACHINE. Their first cover songs were "Rocky Mountain Way" by Triumph and "Fractured Mirror" by Ace Frealey.
His first real stage appearance was at the young age of 13 when his Brother Leroy let him play and help sing "Redneck Girls" at the Hobart Eagles with the COUNTRY TOUCH BAND. In 1992, Robin helped form the band HIGHNOON. He played drums with the band until 1997. After leaving HIGHNOON, his dream of playing with two older brothers in RIDING SHOTGUN (1997 TO 1999) came true. He was the drummer, his brother Jimmy played bass and his brother Leroy was the lead singer. They were the tightest three piece group around; it was like they all flowed with the same groove.
After RIDING SHOTGUN, Robin put the sticks down for a couple of years to learn how to play guitar and sing, along with to teach his daughter, Lynsey, to play drums. He also played in a Christian Worship group for 3 years at the Daybreak Church in Valparaiso.
Currently Robin is the drummer for EATEN ALIVE and has been since October 08.
Influences:
Peter Criss, Eric Carr, Eric Singer, Stan Lynch and John Bonham. The greatest influence of his music were his parents, who always gave him the instruments, time, and God knows, the patience to let him play. He would play the same song over and over and over until it was right. He even remembers hearing his dad mumbling under his breath, "They call me Doctor Love. I got the cure." Both of his brothers also have been great influences and motivation to him. When he was 12, Jimmy would come to the they would turn on the strobe light and play for hours. Jimmy always told him to practice his ass off and to be the driving force, be the leader. This dedication to practice gave him stamina, arm strength and a little hearing loss in the process. Leroy showed him the finese, great time keeping, and the smooth moves to be a solid drummer, along with the confidence to sing.
