Jennifer Mustafa's Bio

Jenny’s love of music began the day she was born.  Her parents hung a bird in her cradle that you’d hit to play music.  Jenny would hit the bird repeatedly and sing along to the bird’s song.  Once she began walking, her first “performance” was when she was just 2 years old.  She was at the Knights of Columbus Christmas dinner party, which her grandfather was a part of, and walked on stage, grabbed the microphone, and sang every Christmas carol she knew.  Needless to say, she’s never been afraid of the stage.

Growing in Crown Point and attending Merrillville Schools, Jenny was involved in choir, show choir, and theater throughout her entire upbringing.  She entered the acting world at age 8 after her elementary music teacher persuaded her mother to take to an “Oliver” audition.  Jenny’s mother told her that was going to audition, and Jenny cried at the thought of having to act on stage.  Singing was one thing, but acting was another.  Well, after being in the auditions for about 5 minutes, Jenny was hooked and could not have been more excited to enter this new realm of entertainment.  This also led her to take part in voice lessons for the next 15 years. Her biggest role in elementary school was “Marta” in The Sound of Music. She was honored to be involved in an MHS show and thought it was so cool to get to be friends with high school students.  To this day she still keeps in touch with many of them.

After her elementary debut, Jenny performed in such groups as Velveteens, Choralteens, and Vocalteens under the direction of Roger Emig at MHS.  He, along with his late wife, had the most influence in her musical career. To know him and work with him is a privilege for anyone, for he is a musical genius.  During high school, Jenny performed in shows such as, “Bye, Bye Birdie” (Mrs. MacAfee), “Pirates of Penzance” (Mabel), and in the northern Indiana premiere of “Ragtime” (Mother).  She also performed the breath-taking choral work of Handel’s “Messiah” as the soprano soloist.

After high school, Jenny went on to the University of Indianapolis to major in music education.  While studying she was involved in African Drums (so fun!), Concert Choir as soprano section leader, and her favorite- Crimson Express, the University’s exclusive vocal jazz group. Crimson is where Jenny found her inner belting diva.  This group helped her to develop stamina and expand her belting range to perform in groups such as Eaten Alive.  Crimson will definitely be one of the fondest memories of her life.

2 ½ years after moving back home, Jenny was asked to join Eaten Alive in November ’10.  She had the pleasure of working with them in December ’09 when they performed at her staff Christmas party, and was thrilled when they contacted her to join the group as a permanent member!  She can’t wait to see where this new, exciting road leads!
